American Express Global Business Travel teamed up with Business Travel News to survey over 200 travel buyers and procurement executives to take the pulse of today’s travel management industry with the results presented in white paper and webinar “Balancing Service and Costs in a Procurement-Driven Travel Program” and infographic “Metrics that Matter in Managed Corporate Travel.” What the survey found is that, while savings are valued overall, the importance of service delivery across managed travel supplier categories is growing.

  • More than half of respondents ranked service delivery from travel management companies, duty of care/traveler tracking, and online booking tools as much more important than costs.
  • 70% of respondents said they compare hotel rates by benchmarking against year-over-year company data, while significantly fewer said they use third-party data.
  • 65% of respondents track average cost per trip to monitor travel program performance on a regular basis.
