Sydney, February 16, 2021 – American Express Global Business Travel (GBT), the world’s leading business partner for managed travel, today announced they are offering Australian clients a new feature to help meet carbon targets as part of their broader sustainability goals.
“We were the first global travel management company to offset 100% of our own employees’ business travel emissions and we want to make it easier for our clients to do the same with their employees,” said Jo Sully, GBT’s Vice President and General Manager for APAC.
The company has launched a new sustainability feature in their business travel software for Australian clients to accurately measure and report on employee carbon emissions associated with flights, accommodation and car hire. These emissions are offset by Tasman Environmental Markets (TEM), Australia’s most experienced carbon offset provider.
“We looked for a partner who would complement GBT’s suite of global environmental initiatives and with TEM we can also offer clients a world-leading, but distinctly Australian program. Through this new feature our clients can combine sustainability goals with the investment into local community projects such as fire management programs in Arnhem Land, owned exclusively by Aboriginal people,” she said.
TEM, Australia’s largest buyer of voluntary offsets, is providing GBT with its BlueHalo software which quickly calculates carbon emissions of a customer’s journey and offsets this in one simple step. Peter Castellas, TEM CEO, believes customers will respond positively to the initiative to make travel more carbon neutral.

The carbon offset program is available now and clients can speak with their GBT account manager to activate this functionality in the travel software.
The program complements GBT’s recent announcement with Carbonfund.org Foundation and Carbon Footprint where GBT customers can purchase carbon offsets on preferred terms.
