Sherry Scott, Vice President Government Affairs, Canada, American Express Global Business Travel (GBT)

Today, we are delighted to introduce you to Sherry Scott, Vice President Government Affairs. Despite having over 25 years of experience in the business travel industry, this career path actually comes as Sherry’s second, after a decade working in the Canadian public sector in the Department of National Defence and Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, in both Canada and Germany.

Today, Sherry is accountable for working with the Government of Canada, supporting the success of 96 unique federal departments (from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to the Canadian Space Agency, and more). Her role is to help the dedicated GBT team provide excellent customer service to over 450,000 travellers, while balancing this with the needs of the organization. As the largest account for GBT in Canada and the fifth largest for GBT globally, this is no small task.

Sherry maintains that her personal integrity is intertwined with the integrity of GBT, complemented by her balanced, common sense approach. She says, “Our credo should be intertwined into every one of our client conversations, at all levels in the organization. It is imperative that each employee understands and embraces our value proposition, so we provide a consistent, high level of service to our customers that is second to no one else.”

Given Sherry’s diversity of roles and years of experience, she brings unique expertise to the industry and her clients. Not one to sit on her laurels, Sherry is the GBT senior representative on IATA’s Agency Programme Joint Council (APJC) as well as serving as Co-Chair on the CCTA (Canadian Corporate Travel Association).

Sherry is particularly interested in the influence of maturing millennials on business travel, as they move up their corporate ladders. She says it is both refreshing and challenging to look at their needs and expectations.

With over 20 years of experience in event and meetings management, Shelley has designed over 100 “high touch” events for American Express Global Business Travel clients. Types of events include executive meetings, incentive travel programs, national sales conferences, product launches, trade shows and a variety of specialty meetings.

As a sales professional, Shelley brings a strong ability to build relationships with her clients and supports them as they move through the meetings and event planning cycle. She understands the corporate travel world, stakeholders, and the need to take meetings to another level. Shelley partners with her clients to make sure every part of their event is a success.

Offering a strong focus on communication and marketing initiatives, Shelley has an extraordinary flair for the creative. Well travelled, with a wide scope of event knowledge around hotels and destinations in over 40 countries, she helps clients find the perfect destination. In addition, Shelley is experienced in supporting group air and ground transportation needs for high profile events that warrant personalized care and a higher touch of service.

Shelley focuses on each event being customized on a concierge level and, by identifying attendee personas up front she is able to cater the experience to grab attendees’ attention. Shelley prides herself on creating unique, cutting edge programs that enable meeting attendees to walk away with an extraordinary experience, elevated learnings, while overall feeling more energized and connected.
