London – March 17, 2022 – American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT), the world’s leading B2B travel platform, has signed the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ pledge. Signing the pledge provides Amex GBT an enhanced framework to engage colleagues and customers on DE&I issues, brings third-party expertise to its existing DE&I efforts and access to additional resources.

Created and led by a steering committee of CEOs and leaders from 10 organizations, the pledge has been signed by more than 2,000 CEOs. It is the largest CEO-led commitment to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.    

Paul Abbott, Amex GBT’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “For a modern company to be successful it must have a diverse, inclusive and equitable culture. People flourish when they genuinely feel included and teams draw great strength from diversity. In recent years, we have established many groups and initiatives to advance diversity and inclusion. We have also taken steps to lead in the industry, notably to promote supplier diversity. But we are all still learning. Signing the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion pledge gives us more structure, guidance and insight to help us on our journey.”   

The CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion pledge calls upon participating organizations to accelerate diversity and inclusion by committing to actions in each of its four components: 

  1. Cultivate environments that support open dialogue on complex — and sometimes difficult — conversations around diversity, equity and inclusion  
  2. Implement and/or expand unconscious bias education 
  3. Share best – and unsuccessful – practices  
  4. Create and share strategic inclusion and diversity plans with the board of directors (or equivalent governing bodies)
