Lee Shufro, Vice President & General Manager, American Express Global Business Travel

Dear valued customers,

Welcome to our first edition of the Atlas newsletter for 2019, which looks to be a great year ahead for the business travel industry.

As always, in this edition of the Atlas newsletter, we are focused on making sure your organization is aware of and prepared for the latest in business travel, and of course, that you are supported every step of the way.

One thing that is becoming increasingly clear is that this year will be all about the data. Whether it’s about protecting travelers’ sensitive details, capturing trip itineraries for duty of care purposes or using AI-driven analytics for program optimization, we know that there will be several ways in which data will play a critical role in corporate travel programs this year.

When it comes to getting the most out of your program, our Global Business Consulting team recently published two papers about how to maximize your investment in air. Whether you’re entering into RFPs or are negotiating directly with airlines, I trust these reports will be useful in your discussions.

Most companies will be acutely aware of the rising costs of air travel due to ancillary fees, for services like seat upgrades and checked baggage. But do you know exactly how much? We share some tips on how to gain visibility and control over this emerging cost base.

As you know, we are well versed in the challenges that come with managing a corporate travel program. That’s why it’s been such a pleasure to release a new set of 101 guides for travel managers – from TM terms to travel safety – we hope these guides will be particularly useful for your company.

And, when it comes to ensuring your entire travel program is best-in-class, sometimes, you need to look to your peers. That’s why we’re proud to introduce Peer Travel Insights – a benchmarking program that establishes baselines, defines best practices and identifies improvement opportunities for your company. Combining our database with advanced data science, we can now easily help to measure your company’s travel program competitiveness.

And finally, we know from our clients that meeting planning can be not only time consuming, but cumbersome. So we have been really pleased with the response to our personalized venue sourcing service, Meetings Expert. With the negotiating power that comes with American Express Meetings & Events, Meetings Expert can help maximize savings, minimize risk and save time, at no cost to your organization. We’re sharing more in this edition of the Atlas Newsletter, with a special promotion valid throughout the remainder of 2019.

I hope you enjoy this edition of the Atlas newsletter, and as always, we really look forward to working with you and your company this year.

If you would like to get in touch with me, please email me anytime.

Kind regards, Lee
