The polls are in and there's one universal consistency for business travel statistics in 2014: International business travel is taking off! The travel and tourism industry is one of the largest in the United States, with business travel making up a sizable chunk of the industry and experts already predicting 480.5 million domestic business trips by 2016.1 Spending and frequency of travel all rose in 2014, as did the amount of people flying coach.
American Express Global Business Travel has compiled the data and released its 2014 business travel statistics snapshot, revealing the top domestic and international business travel destinations, as well as a number of other insights. All data is based on internal reporting in 2014 on actual booking data through American Express Global Business Travel by U.S.-based travelers.

Our 2014 International Business Travel Statistics Snapshot also found that a surprising 95.6 percent of business travelers flew coach on domestic flights and 65.8 percent on international flights last year. While more travelers flew first class on domestic flights (4.4 percent) overall, road warriors experienced more comfortable travel while flying overseas, with 2.6 percent in first class and 30.5 percent in business.
New York (JFK) to London (LHR) was the most traveled route in 2014 for international trips, while unsurprisingly, New York (LGA) to Chicago (ORD) topped domestic routes. Although Chicago was the top domestic destination, New York maintained a strong hold on domestic route pairings:
Professional services followed by technology and communication, and manufacturing were the top traveled industries for 2014.
