The client, a software company, was looking for a point-of-sale billing solution that could bill travelers individually while avoiding gainshare pricing because they didn’t want to pay fees for rebooking.
The Amex GBT Commercial team worked with Global Pricing to come up with a unique point-of-sale billing solution for the client that billed travelers individually for Hotel Re-Shop Expert transactions while also saving them money by removing amenities such as breakfast and hotel internet during the re-shop process.
The client, a software company, was initially not interested in a hotel re-shopping solution because it needed to be able to provide point-of-sale billing as well as a way to bill travelers individually. Additionally, they were not interested in traditional gainshare pricing as their travelers tend to book multiple times and they didn’t want to have to pay a fee for each rebooking. Because of this, the company had previously focused on eliminating fees under their client negotiated rate program for hotels. Lastly, savings opportunities through re-shopping had not been a huge focus for the client in the past, but with all the rate changes around COVID-19,the client saw a need to revisit.
The client was introduced to Hotel Re-shop Expert™ with a free-trial offer. Hotel Re-shop Expert is an automated auditing tool that monitors hotel prices and rebooks less expensive like-for-like rates as they become available.
After the free trial ended, the Amex GBT Commercial team worked with Global Pricing to come up with a unique point-of-sale billing solution that met the needs of the client. This unique solution enabled the client to bill travelers individually for Hotel Re-Shop Expert transactions. This custom pricing solution has now been standardized and made available to any interested Amex GBT client.
Our solution also considered the unique needs the client had when it came to managing their hotel program and how we could save them money by removing amenities such as breakfast and hotel internet during the re-shop process.
By having Hotel Re-shop Expert dashboards in our reporting tool Premier Insights, the client was able to have more visibility into its travel data, more actionable savings insights, and the ability to monitor its travel policy compliance. These dashboards are available complimentary to any Hotel Re-shop Expert client.
In the first year, 2020-2021, Hotel Re-shop Expert saved the client $86 per booking on average. We rebooked 16.3% of their overall hotel bookings. The total first-year savings was $369,057.
While the overall results are based on a smaller number of transactions due to COVID-19, the results exceeded our initial projections. Hotel Re-shop Expert is providing the client with a savings of 2.1% on their overall hotel spend. Our model has since been used with other clients in need of point-of-sale billing
